Baša families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Ozalj area , rarely Serbs and Slovenes (from Slovenia ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pula and Zagreb. In Butoniga in Pazin every eighth inhabitant had the family name Baša.
Prevalence
About 130 people with faimily name Baša live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 170 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 15 cities and 23 other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), Rijeka (15), Knin (10), Pazin (10), and in Jaksic in Pozega area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1691 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
