Surname Arapović in modern Croatia

Arapović families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia and according to some sources from Slipcic near Mostara (Herzegovina), rarely Bosniaks (from Bosnian Posavina ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Herzegovina (Mostar area) and in Middle Bosnia (Busovaca area). In Slipčići in Herzegovina every third inhabitant had the family name Arapović.

Prevalence

About 420 people with faimily name Arapović live in Croatia today, in 200 households. There were 100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied.
They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 35 cities and 45 other places, mostly in Zagreb (100), Split (35), Metkovic (30), Bosnjaci in Zupanja area (25), and in Rijeka (20).

Outside Croatia

At least ten families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: Germany (3), Sweden (2), Austria (1), the Netherlands (1), Australia (1), Switzerland (1), and to the United States (1).
Family name Arapović (including: Arapovic , Arapovich ) is present in 25 countries worldwide. The family name "Arapovic " is used by some 400 people in Germany , about 200 in the United States , and some 100 people in Austria.
