Žižić families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Solin. According to some sources they are from Rama (north Herzegovina), rarely Bosniaks (Tuzla area, Bosnia), and Montenegrins . In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and in Solin area. In Brštanovo in Solin area every eighth inhabitant had the family name Žižić.
Prevalence
About 710 people with faimily name Žižić live in Croatia today, in 270 households. There were 510 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 25 cities and 30 other places, mostly in Split (220), Solin (160), Zagreb (90), Otok in Sinj area (80), and in Brstanovo in Solin area (35).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1842 in source Catholic Church Parish Records 1842.
