In Croatia, Šukara families are predominantly Serbs, rarely Croats (from the Island of Losinj ), and barely Bosniaks (also from the Island of Losinj ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Benkovac and Obrovac. In Bogatnik in Obrovac every second inhabitant had the family name Šukara.
Prevalence
About 60 people with faimily name Šukara live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 20 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number tripled. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and two other places, mostly in Mali Losinj on the Island of Losinj (15), Trpinja in Vukovar area (<10), Zagreb (<10), Gornje Biljane (<10), and in Kriz in Ivanic-Grad area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 2007 in source Encyclopaedia of Croatian Surnames.
