Štambuk families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Brac. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Zagreb. In Selca on the Island of Brac every tenth inhabitant had the family name Štambuk.
Prevalence
About 410 people with faimily name Štambuk live in Croatia today, in 220 households. There were 480 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 26 cities and 25 other places, mostly in Split (155), Zagreb (130), in Selca (55) and Sumartin (10) on the Island of Brac, and in Hvar on the Island of Hvar (10).
Outside Croatia
At least six families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: Germany (4), France (1), and to the United States (1). Family name Štambuk (including: Stambuk , Stambuck and Shtambuk ) is present in 7 countries on three continents. The family name "Stambuk " is used by some 100 people in Chile and about 100 in the United States.
