In Croatia, Špicer families are almost entirely Croats (from Varazdin area ), very rarely Jews (from Zagreb ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Slavonski Brod and Zagreb.
Prevalence
About 20 people with faimily name Špicer live in Croatia today, in 13 households. There were 50 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased significantly. They are only located in four Croatian cities and two other places, mostly in Slavonski Brod (<10), Zagreb (<10), Cakovec (<5), Turcin in Varazdin area (<5), and in Sisak (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over eighty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
