Škulj families are Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Travnik area) and in Rijeka. In Šuljci in Podrinje (Bosnia) every sixth inhabitant had the family name Škulj.
Prevalence
About 70 people with faimily name Škulj live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 30 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number more than doubled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 17 cities and 9 other places, mostly in Licki Osik (15), Mikleus in Orahovica area (10), Vodnjan in Pula area (<10), Karlovac (<10), and in Zagreb (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1923 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
