Škiljan families are Croats and they are mostly from Samobor. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Samobor and Zagreb. In Cerje Samoborsko in Samobor every sixth inhabitant had the family name Škiljan.
Prevalence
About 190 people with faimily name Škiljan live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 110 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 80 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 16 cities and 16 other places, mostly in Rude (35), Samobor (35), Crikvenica (30), Zagreb (15), and in Cerje (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
