In Croatia, Šimin families are generally Croats (from Peljesac Peninsula ), very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar and Split.
Prevalence
About 20 people with faimily name Šimin live in Croatia today, in 10 households. There were 40 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in four Croatian counties, four cities and threee other places, mostly in Putnikovic on the Peljesac peninsula (<10), Seget Donji in Trogir area (<5), Brgulje (<5), Rijeka (<5), and in Zadar (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1927 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
