Šišić families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Nova Gradiska area , rarely Bosniaks (from middle Bosnia) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Nova Gradiska area and in Middle Bosnia (Zavidovici area). In Osova in Middle Bosnia every tenth inhabitant had the family name Šišić.
Prevalence
About 400 people with faimily name Šišić live in Croatia today, in 180 households. There were 220 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 80 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 39 cities and 40 other places, mostly in Davor in Nova Gradiska area (110), Zagreb (75), Dubrovnik (25), Slavonski Brod (20), and in Pula (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1571 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
