Šaula families are often Serbs and they are mostly from Duga Resa area , less frequently Croats. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Duga Resa area and in Karlovac. In Lisine in Duga Resa area every fourth inhabitant had the family name Šaula.
Prevalence
About 80 people with faimily name Šaula live in Croatia today, in 40 households. There were 150 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 6 cities and 10 other places, mostly in Dugi Dol in Duga Resa area (15), Karlovac (10), Kupljensko in Duga Resa area (10), Zagreb (<10), and in Borovo in Vukovar area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
