Šaran families are Croats and they are mostly from Drnis area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Drnis area and in Zagreb.
Prevalence
About 110 people with faimily name Šaran live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 14 cities and 14 other places, mostly in Split (20), Zagreb (15), Ruzic in Drnis area (<10), Klostar Ivanic in Ivanic-Grad area (<10), and in Kastel Sucurac (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1923 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
