Šapić families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Glina area , whereas often Croats (from Nova Gradiska ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Garesnica and in Glina area.
Prevalence
About 130 people with faimily name Šapić live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 130 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 16 cities and 18 other places, mostly in Malicka in Glina area (15), Zagreb (15), Rijeka (10), Mala Brsljanica (<10), and in Beli Manastir (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
