Šalinović families are Croats and they are mostly from Vrgorac. According to some sources they are from Medjugorje. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Vrgorac and in Prolog, near Ljubuški. U Gradu Vrgorcu every ninth inhabitant had the family name Šalinović.
Prevalence
About 510 people with faimily name Šalinović live in Croatia today, in 190 households. There were 280 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 90 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 27 cities and 21 other places, mostly in Veliki Prolog (155), Split (85), Vrgorac (70), Zagreb (30), and in Ploce (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
