Šagovac families are Croats and they are mostly from Nova Gradiska. According to some sources they are from Cernika. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Nova Gradiska and Zagreb.
Prevalence
About 140 people with faimily name Šagovac live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 220 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 13 cities and 15 other places, mostly in Zagreb (40), Novska (15), Ivanovo Polje in Daruvar area (15), Prvca (10), and in Velika Gorica (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
