Šagi families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Ivanec area , rarely Hungarians (from Beli Manastir area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Ivanec area and in Varazdin. In Brodarovec in Ivanec area every fourth inhabitant had the family name Šagi.
Prevalence
About 200 people with faimily name Šagi live in Croatia today, in 90 households. There were 160 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 15 cities and 25 other places, mostly in Brodarovec in Ivanec area (45), Varazdin (20), Valpovo (15), Jagodnjak in Beli Manastir area (<10), and in Bartolovec in Varazdin area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1923 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
