Šabić families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Imotski area. According to some sources they are from Subotica area (Vojvodina), rarely Bosniaks from middle Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sinj and in Imotski area. In places Šabići and Šumatac in Cazins Region (Bosnia) every fourth inhabitant had the family name Šabić.
Prevalence
About 1300 people with faimily name Šabić live in Croatia today, in 520 households. There were 510 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number more than doubled. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 71 cities and 111 other places, mostly in Zagreb (170), Brnaze (165), Zmijavci in Imotski area (160), Osijek (70), and in Split (70).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
