Čupić families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Drnis. According to some sources they are from Konavle, very rarely Serbs from Vukovara. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Drnis and Dubrovnik. In Trbounje in Drnis every fourth inhabitant had the family name Čupić.
Prevalence
About 1000 people with faimily name Čupić live in Croatia today, in 440 households. There were 700 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 43 cities and 66 other places, mostly in Zagreb (205), Drnis (135), Split (105), Vodovadja in Dubrovnik area (55), and in Komin (45).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
