Čerina families are Croats and they are mostly from Solin. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Benkovac. In Podgrađe in Benkovac every second inhabitant had the family name Čerina.
Prevalence
About 480 people with faimily name Čerina live in Croatia today, in 190 households. There were 260 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 80 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 20 cities and 23 other places, mostly in Solin (115), Split (95), Podgradje (65), Zagreb (50), and in Zadar (35).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
