Čarapina families are Croats and they are mostly from Opuzen area. According to some sources they are from Mostar area (Vrde), Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Herzegovina (Mostar area) and in Metkovic. In places Vrdi , Donja Drežnica and Krehin Gradac in Herzegovina every eighth inhabitant had the family name Čarapina.

Prevalence

About 170 people with faimily name Čarapina live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 60 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number tripled.
They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 15 cities and 14 other places, mostly in Zagreb (55), Metkovic (50), Ploce (<10), Bosnjaci in Zupanja area (<10), and in Alaginci (<10).
