Čalić families are frequently Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Posavina. According to some sources they are from Pula area, less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Bosanian Posavina (Modrica area). In Čardak in Bosanian Posavina every ninth inhabitant had the family name Čalić.
Prevalence
About 680 people with faimily name Čalić live in Croatia today, in 300 households. There were 680 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 54 cities and 85 other places, mostly in Zagreb (110), Marcana in Pula area (55), Sesvete (35), Pula (30), and in Osijek (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1721 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
