Čačija families are Croats and they are mostly from Sinj. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sinj and Zagreb. In Bajagić in Sinj every eighth inhabitant had the family name Čačija.

About 260 people with faimily name Čačija live in Croatia today, in 110 households. There were 160 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 17 other places, mostly in Bajagic (75), Zagreb (30), Sinj (25), Split (20), and in Osijek (15).
Outside Croatia
At least two families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to the United States. Family name Čačija (including: Caciya , Cacija , Chachiya and Chaciya ) is present in 11 countries worldwide. The family name "Cacija " is used by small number of people in the United States.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1786 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
