Ćurčija families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Benkovac area , often Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Benkovac area and in Imotsko. In Popović Brdo in Karlovac every seventh inhabitant had the family name Ćurčija.
Prevalence
About 170 people with faimily name Ćurčija live in Croatia today, in 90 households. There were 180 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 23 cities and 23 other places, mostly in Zagreb (25), Zadar (20), Donji Prolozac in Imotski area (20), Dubrovnik (15), and in Stari Slatinik in Pleternica area (10).
