In Croatia, Ćimić families are mainly Bosniaks (from East Herzegovine ), less frequently Croats (from Dubrovnik ), and very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Dubrovnik and in East Herzegovina (Gacko area). In Hodinići in East Herzegovina every third inhabitant had the family name Ćimić.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Ćimić live in Croatia today, in 20 households. They are located in 6 Croatian counties and 5 other places, mostly in Dubrovnik (40), Mlini in Dubrovnik area (<5), Zagreb (<5), Mokosica (<5), and in Kolocep (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
