Ćapin families are Croats and they are mostly from Imotski area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Imotski area and in Imotsko. In Podbablje Gornje in Imotski area every eighth inhabitant had the family name Ćapin.
Prevalence
About 360 people with faimily name Ćapin live in Croatia today, in 140 households. There were 230 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 14 cities and 10 other places, mostly in Podbablje Gornje (110) and Zmijavci (65) in Imotski area, Split (55), Zagreb (30), and in Makarska (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1923 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
