The Croatian Catholic parish of St. Nicholas was established in 1894 as the first Croatian Catholic parish in the United States, in the city of Allegheny, now Pittsburgh's North Shore. As the number of Croatian residents increased in the area, the congregation split in 1900 and formed a second parish, also named St. Nicholas, in Troy Hill
