Memories: Sila


Stefan Silla, arrived in New York New York USA April 1892.  He resided in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania USA after arriving in the US working at the Pressed Steel Car Company of McKees Rocks Pennsylvania.  The Pressed Steel Car Company was terrible and dangerous place to work, workers were frequently maimed, disfigured, injured, and even killed, leading to a labor strike and riot in 1909.  Stefan Changed his name to Steven Silla after arriving in the US and was left partially paralyzed either do to and accident or illness.  He took his onw life in November of 1920 and is buried in an unmarked grave in St. Jospehs Cemetery in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
