Memories: Selanac

"The group of fighters in Brezovica, led by Franjo Smolčić, grew significantly after the failed assassination attempt on the Ustasha camp guard Škornjáč in Topolovac on July 25, 1941. Namely, the assassination was attempted by a young man, Josip Selanec, but the bomb he wanted to throw into the camp guard's apartment bounced off the metal mesh on the window and the assassin himself was killed. The base near Debeli Brest soon became the main headquarters of the fighters of the Sisak Detachment, a real military camp. New volunteers from Sisak and surrounding villages joined the Detachment, so that by the end of August there were about 60 fighters in the Detachment."
