Shalom from Jerusalem.
My grandfather was called David Duscovitch. He was born in London, but his family came from Jesse Romania.
I have been looking to find more info on this family name and find very little, only that the Duscovitch family in London was very small and apparently some of them left for America. Have dates and names.
Then someone told me that Duscovitch is not a Romania name at all . Today someone else told me the name is connected to Croatia, of which I know very little about the country, the history and the Jewish population.
I would so appreciate finding out more and have no idea why or when the family moved to Romania, or even why they then moved to London.
Maybe there is family in Croatia who are related to my ggrandfather Avraham.
Usually in Jerusalem with so many people coming to live or visit, from all over the world, we find answers to questions like mine. However until now , 20 years, I have never found anyone who knows anything about this name at all, which is really strange. However according to your site, not many people have this surname, so that would be probably be one reason.
In 1959 our family left Israel on our way to South Africa and at the age of 5, met my grandfather David Duscovitch. He was the kindest, most gentle, good hearted man I have ever met in my entire life. We wrote letters until his death when I was 13.
I do not know if he was a special soul or if people in Croatia are like that, but would like to find out more and also see photos of typical Jewish men from Croatia, so I can see if looks like a local.
Thank you so much and looking forward to learning more about the Jews of Croatia
