Kakanj is located in the municipality Kistanje, in Šibenik-Knin County at an elevation of 244 meters above sea level and it covers the area of 3.08 km² (1.19 sq. miles). According to the 2011 census report, there were 49 inhabitants. It is entirely populated by Serbs. Nearby places: Smrdelje, Krnjeuve, Varivode, Ićevo, Bribir, Gorice, Đevrske, Vaćani, Bratiškovci and Piramatovci.
