Vlahović families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Ploce. According to some sources they are from east Herzegovina, rarely Montenegrins, and barely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Samobor. In Znož in Zlatar nearly every inhabitant had the family name Vlahović.
Prevalence
About 2300 people with faimily name Vlahović live in Croatia today, in 960 households. There were 2000 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 77 cities and 202 other places, mostly in Zagreb (460), Komin (130), Farkasevec Samoborski (75), Postira on the Island of Brac (65), and in Bjelovar (60).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over seventy times, the first time 1683 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
