Klaić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Posavina. According to some sources from Konavle, Like or Slavonia, rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosanian Posavina (Orasje area) and in Zagreb. In Donja Mahala in Bosanian Posavina every ninth inhabitant had the family name Klaić.
Prevalence
About 700 people with faimily name Klaić live in Croatia today, in 310 households. There were 690 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 40 cities and 46 other places, mostly in Zagreb (130), Zupanja (120), Popovici in Dubrovnik area (45), Osijek (30), and in Lipik (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over sixty times, the first time 1750 in source 18th Century Census.
