Karić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Gospic area , also Bosniaks (from Bosnian Posavina ), very rarely Serbs. According to some sources the family name originates from Herzegovina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Gospic area. In Donji Čažanj in North Herzegovina nearly every inhabitant had the family name Karić.
Prevalence
About 370 people with faimily name Karić live in Croatia today, in 160 households. There were 150 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number more than doubled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 34 cities and 38 other places, mostly in Zagreb (130), Slavonski Brod (25), Kvarte in Gospic area (20), Split (20), and in Kutina (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
