Jurkić families are Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Posavina. According to some sources they are from Livno (Bosnia/Herzegovina). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosanian Posavina (Bosanska Gradiska area) and in Banja Luka Region, Bosnia (Banja Luka area). In Slavkovići in North Herzegovina every fourth inhabitant had the family name Jurkić.
Prevalence
About 660 people with faimily name Jurkić live in Croatia today, in 270 households. There were 70 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 45 cities and 92 other places, mostly in Zagreb (145), Babina Greda in Zupanja area (35), Osijek (20), Kutina (20), and in Sesvete (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over sixty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
